In Turn

Help me see what I can’t see

From all the way over here

Help me go beyond this mind I have

For a while

Sharpen my presence with your past

As we journey from … all the way over

In, through and to what’s

More

“How we say something matters as much as what we say, because our automatic nervous system is listening and responding to tone long before our thinking brains get the message.” (1) (Leave your message after in the tone. (I will be working on this for the rest of my life. (Help me hold all my calls.)))

Rogers throws up a prayer: A “Person-centered Approach,” contains three conditions for a growth-promoting climate within relationships. These conditions apply “in any situation where in which the development of the person is a goal.” (2)

“1. Genuineness. Putting up no front or facade.

  2. Acceptance, caring or prizing – ‘unconditional positive regard.’

  3. Empathetic understanding.” (3)

“Hello to the complicated art of belonging.” (4)

“As persons are accepted and prized, they tend to develop a more caring attitude toward themselves.

As persons are empathically heard, it becomes possible for them to listen more accurately to the flow of inner experiencings.” (5)

“You should not underestimate the power you have to affirm the humanity and dignity of the people who are around you.” (6)

You and I have a role to play

In the story we’re in

Imagine … later today

Catching another off guard

Picture being them

Before

Surprising them

By prizing them with genuine positive regard

Consider your potential

Within the “realm of the possible” (7)

Tend to our plot with all you got

Setting the prisoners we still are … free

May a vision of unity, midwifed by kindness; turn us

All around

All along

The way
