A Pile Of Notes

Hi.

I am a piece of work … and so are you.

Some of you are smiling because you know I’m right.

Some of you just left.

Honestly

You and I are all kinds of different.

Also, we are the same. (Both of us are makers.)

Artists if we will.

How’s my assumption working?

“The root meaning of ‘art’ is ‘to join, or fit together.’” (1) Think "skill as a result of learning or practice.” (2)

On a daily basis, with matters that vary, this is what we do.

This is what we’re like.

Being human is a creative process to draw together and share.

I am a graphic designer, and this is my Trapper Keeper, full of notes to self (3)

FROM: Me and Fellow Travelers

TO: Us

(Before you are reflections to reflect on.)

Imagine walking through an art museum and being drawn to a particular creation that an artist finally let go of.

In standing in front of an abstract painting, there is often a sense of “I get it” and “I don’t get it” at the same time.

I understand the piece in part, while understanding that there’s more to it than what I’ve managed to grasp.

This is art and this is life, “I get it” and “I don’t get it.”

Upcoming pages will appear clear and unclear and awkward and strange; because they were written by me. My best friends will laugh here.

Upcoming pages will appear clear and unclear and awkward and strange; because they are being read by you. Your best friends will laugh here.

We are different. We are the same. (We are promising interpreters with issues.)

An aging child, rocking stone-washed genes, rips open a pocket of Now and Laters, spilling a “constellation of perceptions,” unstashing a Mystery Mix. (4) (5)

“Aw, he got the Velcros.” (6)

Bind fast!

“Keep flying” (7)

Honestly.

Go

Through

Again

Rereading our piece.

Let us get ready to “rumble” (8)

All that we have

Made

Up. (Calling all framers, fasteners and 3-ring-binders)

Sincerely,

This Old House

(Our Father’s Fixer Upper.)

Silence rings out and runs down the hall. Stillness sets in and stirs.

“You think, ‘why do I love that piece?’

Well, chances are it’s because it reminds you of something.

Something from history, something from childhood, maybe even something you lost.” (9)

The teacher’s back is turned and a series of notes from across the class are making their way to you.

These notes are a mirror.

See what you think.
